A great taming mount with friends! Have one person drive and another shoot tranqs, makes tranqing flying creatures like argies and quetz a breeze, but you can also use this technique to tranq just about anything. Solo, you can hook onto walls such as cliff sides and try to fire from the saddle, although the angle tends to be difficult.
Otherwise, it makes a great "pick up" mount, use it to pick up friends that may have lost their flying mount or otherwise stranded themselves far from home.
However they are quite slow, consider putting a number of points in speed and a few in weight, especially if you want to keep up with fleeing quetz. With enough weight they can become an interesting alternative to an argy.
From personal experience I believe if you play on a PvE server that the Tapejara is best suited for hauling items around considering it has low boosts when you put levels in Hp or Attack. Therefore you should put most of the points if not all into Weight and Speed. It very mobile as well, since it can move forwards, backwards, and side to side. It also has a three person saddle it can be very useful in PvP. It is very fragile so be careful when you have tribe mates using the gunner seats if they accidentally hit the Tapejara and you may kill the bird. Especially be cautious with rocket launchers they will do heavy amounts of damage to the Tapejara. Also note it can be hard for your tribe mates in the gunner seats to aim if you put to many points into movement speed. I suggest pausing for a second to let them shoot then move to strafe enemy weaponry.
202.2% movement speed is the bare minimum to lure a wyvern into a trap at GREAT RISK of loss of life. 225% will let you safely outrun them and is a widely accepted speed of preference for milk runs. Each level to movement speed increases it by 3.4% compared to 2.5% for the argentavis, AND Tapejaras gain 36.5% movement speed at no cost of levels after taming.
Once tamed you can get a buddy to fly on the it with you which makes it so much easier to knock out big dinosaurs like rexes and brontos. All you have to do is fly above it and let ur tribe mate shoot darts
9/10 one of my favourite flying mounts. I go everywhere with mine, scouting and getting some stuff. The control is so satisfying and better instead of the other flying mounts that you have to look here to go there all that shit. Level up weight and stamina, take it wherever. Downside is that it can't pick up many things. I also used mine to tame stuff, using it to go to places faster and for a getaway. I used the solo Tapejara strategy to tame a Quetzal!
tired of seeing low lvl quetzals? then grab about 200% movement speed some sham and rest damage.. with the ability to strafe in any direction. you can easily keep up with the quetzal after being hit, and trying to escape. works great for me, even though they are not meant for damage, it's easier then using an argentavis to kill low lvl quetzals. don't need any health into it either for the quetzal doesn't attack you.
just runs like the GingerBread Man
These guy are very useful for taming quetzals. But make sure you stay under it. The drivers hit box can get caught in the bow, crossbow, longneck and knock you out. After that your body will fall halfway down to the ground and you will then wake up and die. You should only pump stam, weight and movement.
Once tamed, the tapejara is a great mount for taming or fighting other creatures. Have yourself or a tribemate fly the tapejara while a passenger in the back seat shoots down at a creature with darts or arrows. The tapejara's unique ability to strafe midair and fly backwards enables the rider to also chase after fleeing creatures such as other tapejara's or other flying creatures. The passenger in the back can also easily attack flying bugs and vultures that may be chasing your bed down.
Best way to tame a quetzal besides using a quetz trap. Simply upgrade speed and mostly stamina. Sit two passengers on with tranqs and either fly underneath or beside the quetzal and have the passengers shoot.
When flying and useing in PvP do not try to pick or bite your target (Argi, quetz,Tera, jara) instead use the maneuverability to doge attacks and wait for the player to run out of stamina then when they land go for the pick but do not hold them for long periods of time seeing how you'll have low health try dropping them in a base with turrets or off a cliff if not available then carry a small distance drop them and use that time to flee to safety or for a tribe mate to get there to assist-add on Xbox HARDCORE PANDA7
The tapejara could be one of the most versatile flying mounts. Although it lacks melee damage, it can more than make up for that in manoeuvrability. It can go straight up and down, strafe left and right and fly backwards nearly as fast as flys forwards. It can be used for PVP as it has a three person saddle, but it can be very dangerous, as it is hard to fire rockets off of it while tying to dodge incoming fire from enemies, as one unlucky shot could kill all the riders. Stopping to shoot is good, but it leaves an opening for the tapejara to be hit by enemies. However it can attach to trees and flat surfaces, but the stamina regent on these is NOT very high.
This is my favorite flying mount. It can literally fly in all directions(forward, backwards, left, right, up and down!!). It also has a threeseater saddle, and can even latch onto vertical surfaces. This makes it the most versatile and agile mount in the game in my opinion.
The tapejara can turn in all directions while flying and has a front and back seatso it can make taming easier (like very dangerous animals like direbears and direwolves and terror birds etc) do to you turning in the air by looking at places. In unofficial servers (YOUR unofficial servers for Xbox) can be used for aiming at things with commands (kill dotame forcetame and some that I missed) by getting the command ready and using it as fast as possible when in range. Be careful when taming something that you don't get too close because it will damage the front/backseat player and the tapejara if you the back/front seat player gets hit by the attack.
