Georgia student allowed gay prom date, parents kick him out
Derrick Martin, an 18-year-old gay senior at a Georgia high school will be allowed to attend his senior prom with his boyfriend, according to macon.com. Officials said the town wasn’t ready for it, but his request was finally granted since the school didn’t have a policy against it.
He was worried that he would get the Bleckley County High School prom canceled, which recently happened to 18-year-old Constance McMillen from Mississippi. Her high school canceled her prom after she requested to attend with her girlfriend.
Blogs and news sites began to respond to the issue and Derrick received many Facebook messages. Because of the media attention, his parents kicked him out of his house. Derrick says that he is currently staying at a friend’s house.
