Federal judge: student’s rights violated in prom cancellation
The Associated Press reports:
A federal judge has ruled that a Mississippi school district violated a lesbian student’s rights by banning her from bringing her girlfriend to the prom, but he stopped short of forcing the district to hold the event.
18-year-old Constance McMillen filed a lawsuit against her Mississippi high school, after the school’s prom was cancelled when she asked to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.
Constance McMillen appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show and was given a $30 thousand college tuition grant.
