Stonewall targets schools with gay eduction film
Every secondary school in Britain is to be sent a copy of a new DVD this month (February 2010) which aims to tackle the issue of homophobic bullying.
Created by the LGBT rights group, Stonewall. ‘Fit’ aims to mirror the approach of the shiny US drama ‘Glee’, using hip-hop, humour and lively writing to communicate with pupils in a way that makes it easy for them to engage with the issues raised.
Being supported by the teacher’s union, NASUWT, the interactive DVD aims to encourage pupils to challenge their widespread use of the word ‘gay’ to mean anything rubbish or in adequate.
